The Plymouth Intergenerational Center …
To meet the Sheboygan County-wide need for expanded senior and child care facilities through development of the new Plymouth Intergenerational Center
The Plymouth Intergenerational Center will include the following major components:
Preliminary Planning and Research:
Ø A feasibility study was conducted to identify the Coalition's goals, quantify the space requirements, analyze sites, provide schematic site and floor plans, and recommend appropriate building systems.
Ø Community focus groups and business leader interviews were conducted to provide direction for researching possible sites.
Ø A Department of Commerce Planning Grant provided funding for site research.
Securing Land for the Plymouth Intergenerational Center:
Ø A seven-acre land site, with easy access from town or highway, was purchased for new construction.
The Plymouth Senior Center has Outgrown its Current Facility
The Plymouth Senior Center currently provides recreational, educational, social, health/wellness programs, day trips, food and fellowship for over 1,600 seniors from the Plymouth/Sheboygan County area per month.
The number of active participants has increased by 70 percent during the past nine years.
Due to an aging “baby boomer” generation, population projections show that by the year 2020, there will be more people age 65 and older than there will be age 17 and under.
