There is only one facility-based, nationally accredited child care center in Plymouth (Here We Grow Child Care) that is licensed for infants and children ages six (6) weeks to 12 years. The Executive Director of Family Connections, Kate Hildebrand has said, “There is serious concern about the availability of quality childcare in the Plymouth area. Child care centers have to walk a fine line of providing quality child care at a cost that parents can afford.
This challenge is becoming more and more difficult and I am happy to hear that the Plymouth Intergenerational Coalition is stepping in to ensure the community they serve will have this service available to them in the future. I get calls on a weekly basis inquiring about where quality child care can be found in Sheboygan County and I often do not have a place to send them.”
There have been several small, in-home family childcare providers that have ceased to operate and this year alone Sheboygan County has lost two day care centers - in Waldo and in Sheboygan.
